Gewurz is a very aromatic variety with the majority of the flavours coming from the skins so unlike most white varieties the pressings have the best flavour (the pressings is the last juice to come from the press and gets the most contact with the skins). A portion of the free run juice (15%) is fermented in large oak barrels to encourage some extra complexity and spice while the remainder, with the pressings, is fermented in tank.
The Deadman’s Hill is always a very perfumed and aromatic wine and the 2016 is no exception. The nose has strong lavender and rose petal characters while the palate is classic Turkish delight and musk. While the flavours are sweet and mouth filling the wine is dry and finishes crisp and clean leaving a long spicy finish of refreshing ginger.
FOOD The strong sweet aromatics of Gewurz make this wine a classic match with aromatic Thai dishes or Indian curries.
