Join vigneron, fisherman and bushwalker David Ritchie for a four hour guided walk in the Alpine National park. About an hours drive from Mansfield, the 12km return hike starts at 8 Mile Flat and follows the Howqua River to Ritchie’s Hut, originally built as a fisherman’s hut for Bob Ritchie (David’s Grandfather) in the 1950’s to and from the newly rebuilt Ritchie’s hut, built as a fisherman’s hut in the 1950’s.
Hiking through the narrow rivervalley and ancient forrests, steal glimpses of Mt Buller’s ski runs and be rewarded with bird’s eye view of the prisitine Howqua River. Enjoy freshly made scones and billy tea at the hut. Back at 8 Mile Flat, cool your heals by the ruver over a barbeque of local Howes Creek Farm sausages and gourmet salads, washed down with a glass or two of Delatite wines.
The hike requires a reasonable level of fitness and agility although the track is mainly undulating with no prolonged steep sections.
