Product Description

Our Reserve Block Riesling is named for Vivienne Ritchie who (along with her husband Robert) planted the first vines here at Delatite in 1968. Vivienne’s Block is only 0.6ha and was part of the original vineyard, so the vines date back to 1968. It’s only made in Delatite’s best years and the vines and winemaking are carefully managed to ensure ultra-premium quality.

The fruit was hand-picked and then whole bunch pressed in a small basket press that was borrowed to accommodate such a small volume of fruit. The resulting juice was racked but some solids were retained to give the wild ferment more character. After fermentation, carried out by natural wild yeasts, the wine was treated very gently with no additions made and a gentle filtration being the only handling of the wine before bottling to retain the pristine characters of these old vines.

The growing condition of 2016 has resulted in intense lime/lemon characters coming from the fruit, with some delightful floral aromatics coming through with rapier-like acidity running through the palate. The wild ferment has added some round complexity to balance this tight Riesling.

C E L L A R I N G  This Riesling with its high natural acidity will age wonderfully for more than fifteen years developing warm toasty characters and hints of honey to complement the fruits lime flavours.

    :

Greetings. My name is Lisa de Vera, and I live in Wenatchee, WA. I am looking for a late harsevt reisling whitewine. I am currently drinking a late harsevt wine from Hermann Weimer winery New York. This particular wine has a 4.5% resid sugar and 9% alcohol. The primary reason I need this particular wine is because of the low acidity. I’m wondering if your 2007 late harsevt is also low in acidity. I would much rather purchase from a winery in WA State. Please give me the information you have on this particular wine. I normally buy a case at a time (but would need to try it first). There are many others here in Wenatchee also looking for low acid wines, and I would love to share this information if this wine works for us!

      Hi Ann,
we’re in Victoria, Australia so I don’t think we can help you with your desire for a late harvest riesling. Though we do make a couple of very good sweet whites, the freight would be a little prohibitive as we don’t currently sell our wines in the US. Our current sweet white wines are the 2012 Late harvest Riesling and the 2012 Catherine Gewurztraminer.
Apologies for the very tardy reply – only jsut starting to learn how to get around our website!
      regards, David
